Gauramma, a middle-aged woman was beaten up by a group of women at Kamakshipalya on Saturday, for her alleged failure to repay the money she owed them.
According to the police, Gauramma, a resident of Kamakshipalya and mother of two, took money from her neighbours promising to repay it soon. But, she failed to do so and left the locality, leaving many money-lenders in lurch, it is said. She returned to the City, four months ago.
A few women who came to know of Gauramma’s return, cornered her at her house and demanded that she immediately repay their money. A heated argument ensued between them, when she sought more time to repay the money.
Irked over it, they thrashed her black and blue. Later, they handed her over to the police. She has sustained minor injuries, said the police.
