The Congress in Gujarat has assured its support of the Income-Tax Employees Federation (ITEF), which is opposing outsourcing of certain services from the department.

"I will take up your demand of opposition to outsourcing and other demands with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Ahmed Patel, Political Secretary to Congress President Sonia Gandhi for resolving them to the satisfaction of 50,000 I-T employees across the country," Opposition leader in State Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil said.

The senior Congress leader was speaking at a function organised by the federation here last evening.

Gohil also criticised Chief Minister Narendra Modi for recruiting non-Gujaratis in Gujarat Bhavan in New Delhi for presenting the state's problems before the Centre.
Speaking on the occasion, D S Rastogi, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Ahmedabad, asked the I-T staffers to ensure speedy delivery of refunds to tax payers as this will help in creating a good public image of the department.

Y S Ravat, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Vadodara, suggested that Grievances Week should be organised to address the problems of tax payers.

ITEF Secretary General Ashok Salunke warned of agitation next month by the employees if their demands were not met by the government.
