It has already recruited 780-800 fresh from the campus in the current year. “We have hired all the 780-800 engineers whom we offered jobs last year, but looking at the current situation we plan to hire lesser number of engineers in the coming year,” said MindTree President & Group CEO  Product Engineering Services S Janakiraman.

The company will also keep a control on lateral recruitment and done purely based on business needs. MindTree, which received a project from Chinese major, plans to open a subsidiary in China in the next 2-3 months.

“The engineers to China centre will be outsourced from India as there is a language barrier for local hiring. The subsidiary will act as a bridge for bringing in business from Chinese customers and global gaints who have presence in China,” Janakiraman said.

Asked to comment on TCS’ move to cut variable pay for trainees, he opined that this will bring a change in mindset of employees and variable pay should not be based only on company’s performance but also on productivity of the employee. “We have already done this in the R&D divison and this is a good model for the industry,” he said.
