Three youths, including an MBBS student, were arrested for committing forgery by impersonating a candidate during All India Pre-Veterinary Test last year, police said on Saturday.

Pawan Kumar, 22,  Vikas Kaushik, 26, and Sukhbeer Yadav, 24, who hail from Haryana, were arrested at their homes, said deputy commissioner of police (south) Chhaya Sharma.

Pawan Kumar, son of a retired army official, is pursuing BSc second year from a reputed college in Delhi. Vikas Kaushik is a final year Bachelor of Ayurveda and Medicine student in Haryana. Sukhbeer Yadav is in the second year of MBBS at a college in Ambala.

They were held on a complaint by Anup Bhaumik, secretary, veterinary council of India. Bhaumik told police that veterinary council had conducted All India Pre-Veterinary Test (AIPVT) on May 14, 2011 for admitting students under 15 per cent quota in different veterinary colleges.

The counselling of successful candidates was held in July and August last year at the council office, Bhaumik added.

The identities of the candidates had been verified by a forensic expert by matching their handwriting, signatures and thumb impressions found on their answer sheets with those obtained during the counselling session, said Bhaumik.

The identity of Pawan Kumar could not be established. The forensic expert said Kumar is not the same candidate who had appeared in the examination.

The council had first gone to the CBI in August which advised it to approach local police to get a case registered against suspected candidates.

Police apprehended Kumar at Bhiwani in Haryana. He confessed to have committed the forgery. His accomplices Vikas Kaushik and Sukhbeer Yadav were also arrested.

Kumar told police that he wanted to clear the veterinary test by all means. He discussed this with close friend Vikas Kaushik, who told him that he knew an MBBS student, Sukhbeer Yadav, said Sharma.

“Kaushik demanded Rs 4 lakh for appearing in the examination in place of him,” added Sharma. Kumar paid Rs 50,000 in advance. On the day of the exam Kaushik made Yadav to appear for the entrance test in place of Kumar.
