The alliance, which consists various organisations working across the country, will hold a rally in Delhi on October 2 on Mahatma Gandhi Jayanthi, to oppose the projects.

Dr S P Udayakumar of the Alliance, addressing a press conference in Bangalore on Saturday, said the Central Government had signed agreements with many countries to set up nuclear power plants in India.

“Nuclear technology is a failed technology. The US had not set up even a single plant in the last 30 years. Similarly Russia did not set up a plant after the Chernobyl incident,” he said.

He said the wastes of the nuclear reactor require 48,000 years to lose radiation. The human habitat around the reactor would be vulnerable to health hazards.
