JD(U) takes a dig at Karnataka BJP

Last Updated 08 July 2012, 20:07 IST

Taking a subtle dig at the BJP, the JD(U) on Sunday said that caste politics has forced its NDA partner to effect a change of guard in Karnataka.

JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav said that outgoing Karnataka chief minister Sadananda Gowda was a “political sacrifice”.  He said Gowda had to go before the next Assembly elections as the Lingayat community has a sizeable population in the state.  “Caste is a reality in Karnataka as well as in the whole country. The BJP has taken the right decision by replacing Gowda with Jagadish Shettar as BJP has to keep its Lingayat vote base intact,” he said. He also said that the BJP had to take this decision to keep the party together ahead of the Presidential elections.

The subtle dig at the BJP seems to be ongoing tussle between JD(U) and BJP over the possibility of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi becoming the NDA’s Prime Ministerial candidate. JD(U) has opposed the very idea.

TIME reconfirms people’s views: BJP

The BJP on Sunday attacked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after he was dubbed as an “underachiever” by Time magazine saying that it has reconfirmed the views of people regarding the UPA government, reports DHNS from New Delhi.

Reacting to  magazine’s criticism, which has termed the PM as an "underachiever" who appeared "unwilling to stick his neck out" on economic reforms, BJP spokesperson Tarun Vijay it has “reconfirmed what all Indians have felt”.
