Two persons, including a 50-year-old Haryana-based businessman, were stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in separate incidents in Delhi in the last 24 hours, police said on Monday.

In the first incident, pepper merchant Rakshpal was killed at Azadpur in north-west Delhi on Monday morning.

Rakshpal, who lives with his family in Sonipat, was at the market for business when he was stabbed by two men at 9 am.

“He was rushed to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital in Malka Ganj, but succumbed to injuries before receiving treatment,” a police official said.

Though police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the attack, they believe he was not killed for robbery as Rs 9,000 and his cellphone were found in his pocket.

“We are investigating the matter from personal enmity and business rivalry angles.

Nothing can be said unless we record statements of his family and friends,” the official added.

Rakshpal’s son told police that his brother was attacked and robbed by their village rivals some months ago.

He suspects the involvement of the same persons behind his father’s killing. A murder case has been filed with Mahendra Park police station.

Metro worker stabbed

The second incident was reported from central Delhi’s Daryaganj, where a 28-year-old Delhi Metro construction worker was stabbed and robbed by four miscreants on Sunday night.

Ranjeet Shah, a native of Bihar’s Samastipur district, worked at a construction site of Delhi Metro Phase-3 project near ITO.

He was returning to the site after recharging his cellphone at a kiosk in Daryaganj when the attack happened at 10 pm.

“The assailants waylaid him and stabbed him when he resisted their robbery attempt,” a police official said.

A passerby found Ranjeet lying in a pool of blood and made a call to the police control room. He was taken to Lok Nayak Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

A murder case has been filed with Daryaganj police station. Police have also detained a man for questioning over the attack.
