Heavy rain that lashed the district on Monday, inundated many classrooms of the Government Higher Primary School in Gulpet, Kolar causing great inconvenience to teachers and students.

Following a work on Raja Kaluve on Tipu Road, rainwater entered the school, located on the Gulpet main road, thanks to uncleaned drains near the school.

Councillors’ apathy

“In spite of repeated pleas to councillors Rauth Shankarappa, Jyoti and even nominated member Rathnamma, nothing has been done to clean the drains,” complained school head T S Vanajakshi.

A total of 140 students study from I standard to VII standard here and for the last six years, the students have been braving the rainwater in their classrooms, she added.

Even motorists were finding it difficult to move as M B Road, near Clock Tower and Gulpet main road were inundated with rainwater.
