Lecturer among 2 killed in accidents

Two people have been killed in two separate accidents in the City since Tuesday night.

Anitha B Pillai, a lecturer of CMR College of Engineering, was killed on the spot when she was run over by a lorry near her college on Wednesday morning.

She was a resident of Malleshpalya. Her husband, Sateesh Raj, is a software engineer with an IT firm at the Bagmane Tech Park. Anita was a lecturer in the IT department of CMR College of Engineering.

The accident occurred when she was on the way to college in her scooter. As she was taking a right turn towards the college, a speeding lorry knocked her down and ran over her. The driver abandoned the lorry and fled from the scene. Banaswadi Traffic Police have seized the lorry.

In another accident, a software engineer was run over by a speeding tempo on Old Madras Road on Wednesday morning.

The victim, Bhagyaraj, 26, was a resident of K R Puram. He was working with an IT firm in Indiranagar. The accident occurred when he was riding his two-wheeler on the way to his office. A speeding tempo ran over him killing him on the spot. The tempo driver has been arrested. Indiranagar police have seized the vehicle.

Body found

The body of a youth was found in a gutter in Chowdeshwari Nagar on Tuesday night.
Police say that the body had multiple stab wounds on chest and stomach. The deceased has been identified as Bhanu Kiran, 21, a resident of Kempegowda Nagar.

He was living with his mother and brother, and the family hails from Savanagere village in Chitradurga district. Kiran was working as an apprentice at the government-owned MEI Factory in Goragunte Palya.

Sources say that Kiran had gone out with some of his friends on Tuesday night. Police suspect that Kiran might have been murdered by his friends when they were drunk. Rajgopal Nagar Police are investigating the case.

Man charred to death

A 45-year-old painter was killed in an accidental fire in his room on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Anand, 45, a resident of Ittamadu.

He hailed from Tamil Nadu. Police say that the mosquito net Anand was using accidentally caught fire. By the time some of the neighbours rushed and tried to save him, the fire had engulfed the entire room.

He was immediately rushed to Victoria Hospital where he succumbed to injuries on Wednesday morning. The mosquito coil in the room could have caused the fire, sources added.

Maid dies, one held

A 15-year-old maid who had jumped off the third floor of a building in Kumar Park (West) on Sunday died on Wednesday.

Jatin has been arrested for driving Shwetha to suicide.His parents Rajesh and Kanchana and sister Khushboo are absconding. Shwetha was employed by the family.

Shwetha’s mother Geetha lodged a complaint with the police. Dr Vasudha Sunil Shetty, Head of Medical Services at the hospital, said that Shwetha fractured her lower limbs and pelvis.
