Teams to check transport dept graft

Facing widespread criticism over the harassment of the common man by transport department officials and touts over issuing driving license, the Delhi government has decided to constitute four enforcement teams for vigilance over regional transport authorities.

“Four enforcement teams would be constituted under the supervision of deputy commissionery (transport) to keep vigilance on the working of all regional transport authorities and to check illegal activities,” said an official.

The enforcement teams would also request Delhi Police to provide all necessary assistance to curb illegal practices,” the official said.

The decision was taken after a meeting chaired by transport minister Arvinder Singh Lovely attended by transport commissioner R Chandramohan and senior officers of transport department including all motor licensing officers.

More facilities

The transport minister said to provide more facility at the stage of applying for a learner’s licence, three motor driving training institutes would be authorised to issue learner’s licences in addition to motor licensing offices and regional transport authorities.

“People could get the learner’s licence from three institutes in the Capital — Institute of Driving and Traffic Research, Loni; Institute of Driving and Traffic Research, Sarai Kale Khan, and Driving Training Institute, Burari,” Lovely said.
