A minor fire broke out at Vikas Sadan near south Delhi’s INA market on Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported.

A short-circuit in an air conditioner was suspected to be the reason behind the blaze.

Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials said they had received a call after thick plume of smoke was reported from the first floor of the building which houses Delhi Development Authority (DDA) headquarters at around 9.10 am.

“Three fire tenders were initially sent to the spot. But as the situation could not be brought under control as expected, six more vehicles were dispatched,” an official said.

After one-and-a-half-hour the fire was finally doused. Officials claimed very few people had to be evacuated due to the timing and nature of the incident.

The actual cause of the blaze can only be ascertained after the DFS and local police complete their investigations.

Employees at Vikas Sadan believe that several important documents might have been gutted in the fire.
