Bharat Bhushan, who till recently headed Directorate General of Civil Aviation before abruptly being removed from the post, has now been shifted to the Steel Ministry.

The senior IAS officer will take over as Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser (AS&FA) in the Steel Ministry. In a move that shocked the civil aviation sector and bureaucratic circles, Bhushan was  told on July 10 to relinquish his post as DGCA boss, a post he was holding as additional charge.

No explanation was offered to the move which Bhushan got to know after Ministry Joint Secretary Prashant Sukul came to his office and showed his own appointment order.

Sukul was named DGCA head as additional charge. Bhushan’s removal came six days after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the extension of his term till this December.

In the Steel Ministry, Bhushan will swap places with Machendranathan who would join the Civil Aviation Ministry in his position as Additional secretary.

Both Bhushan and Machendranathan belong to the 1979 batch of the IAS, though the former belongs to the Kerala cadre and the latter to the Tamil Nadu cadre.

Machendranathan was holding additional responsibility of AS&FA in the Civil Aviation Ministry.
