Special counters to file I-T returns

With July 31 being the last date to file income tax returns, the Income Tax Department will open special counters at the Gayathri Vihar, Palace Grounds from July 25 to 31 to facilitate easy and hassle-free filing of returns.

The special counters will function between 9.30 am and 5 pm on all days including holidays. During this period, I-T returns of salaried assessees and pensioners will not be received anywhere else.

Around 100 special counters will be operational. Arrangements will be made to receive the refund returns separately.

Assessees with a total income exceeding Rs 10 lakh are required to file their returns in electronic format and a special facility is also being provided to the taxpayers at the venue to enable them to e-file the returns.
 
In addition, the special counters will also have facilities such as ATMs, swipe machines and bank extension counter to facilitate instant payment of taxes if any; tax return preparers (TRPs) to assist the assessees in preparing their returns of income; PAN service (NSDL) counters to help the assesses to apply for new PAN or update their address or to rectify any mistakes in their existing PAN; medical support unit to meet the unforeseen exigencies and also food courts.

Sufficient number of help desks and tax volunteers will be also be set up to guide the taxpayers, a press release from the Chief Commissioner of Income-Tax Bangalore-I, said.
