With rains playing truant and jumbos not finding water sources in the Nagarahole reserve forest, they are attracted towards the greenery and weeds at the backwaters of river Kabini and are camping there in herds.

This has turned out to be a new attraction to the visitors at Jungle Lodges and Resorts who are able to sight elephants in abundance.

As sufficient rains were not experienced in Wyanad in Kerala the wild animals not finding food are straying into the villages on the fringes of the forest destroying crops incurring huge losses and also claiming the lives of the innocent villagers.

As the solar fencing installed by the department of forests in the villages situated on the borders of the forests are of substandard quality, the wild animals menace have increased.

The year-long effort of the farmers are destroyed in no time by the wild boars, deers and pachyderms causing anxiousness among the residents there. The wild boars have turned into a big nuisance complain the farmers. This has led to frequent arguments and misunderstanding between the villagers and the department staff.

The appeal made by the farmers requesting the forest department to bear the losses have fallen on deaf ears, they complain.
