Senior citizens line up for second innings

Septuagenarian Jayakumar R was one among hundreds of enthusiasts who were spotted at the job fair for senior citizens organised by Nightingales Medical Trust on Saturday.

Jayakumar, who works as a data entry operator at a private firm in the City, was looking for a job in marketing.

Hundreds of elderly job- seekers from across the City and the State turned out at the job fair organised for senior citizens between the age groups of 60-70 years.

Bylahanumaiah, who had come from Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district was at the fair to net a job in administration, as he believes his forte are discipline and good communication skills.

Women too were not left behind. Chandra Jayanthimala (65), who holds a masters degree in Social Work, said she disliked to sit idle at home.

On the turnout of senior citizens at the job fair, Dr Radha S Murthy, Managing Trustee of Nightingales Medical Trust, said:  “We have received as many as 800 applications.

There are at least 350 job openings (both parttime and fulltime employment) with 38 companies which had set up stalls.

However, several participants expressed their dissatisfaction with the registration process.
