Couple found dead, hanging

A couple married a year ago allegedly committed suicide at their Talaghattapura residence off Kanakapura Road.

Vijayendra (28) and Jayarathna (22) were found hanging from the ceiling fan on Friday by a milkman who peeped through the window after the couple did not respond to his repeated knocks on the door, police said.

He alerted the neighbours who informed the police. The bodies have been sent for autopsy, police said.

The couple from Virupakshapura in Channapatna, Ramanagara district, migrated to Bangalore soon after their marriage.

Vijayendra worked at an eatery in Talaghattapura. Jayarathna was three months’ pregnant.

Police suspect that poverty could have driven the couple to suicide.
 
Girl killed in accident

A speeding car killed a nine-year-old girl at Nerulur Railway Gate near Attibele Friday morning.

Police said Navya, daughter of Muniramaiah and a class 4 student, was crossing the road when the car from Hosur knocked her down.

Passersby intercepted the car, dragged the driver out and thrashed him before handing over him to the police.

A case of negligent driving has been registered against the driver.

PU student killed

A BMTC bus mowed down a student on KG Road near Cauvery Bhavan on Thursday.

B Ashwin (17) of Rajajinagar and student of Jain College on JC Road, was returning home on a two-wheeler when the bus rammed his two-wheeler. The student sustained severe injuries and died on the spot, police said.

The bus driver absconded after the accident, the police added.

Youth commits suicide

A youth allegedly ended life by hanging himself from the ceiling at GKW Layout in Peenya Thursday night.

Padmanabha (20) was the youngest of three children of Ramesh, an autorickshaw driver. His mother was a roadside vendor.  He was depressed after a girl he was in love with spurned him, police said.

Jail term awarded

A chain-snatcher, who had seriously wounded a woman and fled with her gold chain last year in October was awarded two years’ imprisonment by a fast track court recently.

Police said that on October 24 last year, Kumudini was on a morning walk when Ravi Kumar Nayak, 46, came in a two-wheeler, assaulted her and made away with her gold chain.

Passenger robbed

A woman passenger of an autorickshaw was waylaid and robbed by three men in the City on Friday .

Sujatha (26) was on her way to Sultanpaplya from the City railway station with her in-laws, when the suspects waylaid the autorickshaw, snatched Sujatha’s hand bag that contained a gold locket, silver ornaments and a cellphone, police said.

In another incident, Uma (35) of Kamakshipalya, was offering pooja to Ganesha idol in front of her house when two men came in a scooter and snatched away her gold necklace worth about Rs 1.5 lakh, she said in her complaint.
