Wild elephants' menace on rise

A herd of wild elephants which have been camping at Anandapura, Hanchibetta, Puliyeri, Pudukolli have put the villagers to hardship. The farmers have lost their valuable agriculture crops.

With the fear of elephant attack, the students who attend Tamil School and Amathi school have remained inside their houses. Even the labourers are not ready to work in the estate, said a labourer Rachappaji. Arecanut trees, paddy fields belonging to Ahamed Khan at Pudukolli has been damaged by the elephants. Banana plantations belonging to Azeez and Ismail have also been damaged by the herd of elephants. 

The estate labourers who have grown vegetables in their kitchen garden, has also been damaged by the elephants.  

Following elephant menace in Anandapura, a few estate labourers have deserted Anandapura and started staying in a rented house at Ammathi. 

The labourers said that negligence on the part of the forest department has led to increase in wild elephant menace.
