Ford unveils its small car Figo

Briefing reporters Ford Motor Company President and Chief Executive Officer Allan Mulally said “Our integrated manufacturing plant in Chennai is poised to begin volume production of our small car in the first quarter of 2010.”

Refusing to divulge details about the price he said “Ford is reserving further details about the car till its launch in early 2010,” adding that it will be targeted for both domestic sales and exports.

Further, indicating that the firm proposes to make its Chennai plant the hub for exporting Figo to the countries in the Asia Pacific and African region, he said that the plant is being groomed to produce both petrol and diesel versions of the Figo for domestic as well as export market.

Ford has invested US$500 million in its Chennai plant for primarily building the infrastructure for production of the proposed small car.
