SC's notice on troop movement

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Union government on petitions filed by the Press Council of India (PCI) and Indian Newspaper Society (INS) challenging the Allahabad High Court order banning publication of news report on troop movement.

A bench of Justices H L Dattu and C K Prasad also sought response from Nutan Thakur, a social activist, who had filed the PIL in the High Court following the Indian Express report on
April 4.

The HC had dismissed the PIL seeking issuance of writ of mandamus to centre to set up a judicial commission to conduct an inquiry into the allegations made in the news report.
