Julayi

Sailing in and out of trouble
Last Updated 10 August 2012, 18:10 IST

Julayi
Telugu (U/A)
Cast: Allu Arjun, Ileana,
Sonu Sood, Brahmanandam,
M S Narayana, Rao Ramesh,
Rajendra Prasad
Director: Trivikram Srinivas

Director Trivikram Srinivas, like his peers, treads the familiar path with a tale told many times over on the screen. Without much fuss or fanfare, he safely banks on his stylish star — Allu Arjun — to deliver the goods.

And Arjun does it with all flamboyance in Julayi.  He plays Ravindra Narain aka Ravi, who believes in the get-rich-quick mantra, while preaching papa Narayana Murthy (not of Infosys fame) fumes over his son who doesn’t give two hoots for his counsel.
Ravi bumps into Bittoo badshah, who is on the verge of pulling off a bank heist. While Ravi does his bit in putting Bittoo behind the bars, the latter swears revenge. Daddy dearest packs off son to Hyderabad under the protective care of ACP Sitaram, but Bittoo stalks him with his own schemes, befriending an MLA and others. Ravi, meanwhile, romances the love of his life Madhu.

While Arjun lives the role, Ileana presents a pretty maiden picture. Sonu Sood is villainy personified. The comic track too does its bit in enlivening the proceedings.
Aided by technical gloss — editing, photography, choreography — and some smart and stinging dialogues, Julayi makes for a decent fare, especially for Arjun’s fans. Enjoy.
