UGD system in Madikeri soon

Madikeri will get underground drainage facility soon. The State Cabinet has approved an action plan of Rs 62.20 crore for providing underground drainage facility.

The underground drainage plan has been prepared keeping in mind the population of Madikeri in the next 30 years.

The project will be implemented by Karnataka Water Supply and Sewerage Board. The proposal has received administrative and technical approval. The authorities will have to acquire land for the setting up of sewage water treatment plant and four septic tanks in Madikeri.

The CMC has identified 4.78 acre land for sewage water treatment plant near Golf Maidan. Four septic tanks will be set up at various places in Madikeri.

All the waste water will be collected in the septic tank. From the septic tank, it will be sent to the treatment plant, before letting the water out. As many as 4,134 manholes will be constructed in various parts of Madikeri for the implementation of the UGD plan.

The size of the manhole will be 1.5 metre width. CMC Commissioner Shashikumar said that “district administration will have to acquire land for the treatment plant and septic plant.

With the Cabinet okaying the project, the process of land acquisition will be started shortly.”
