Autorickshaw driver torches friend in drunken brawl

 In a drunken brawl, an autorickshaw driver allegedly poured kerosene on a fellow driver and set him on fire, at Ittamadu on Tuesday evening.

Srinivas alias Satya, 45, and Swamy, 50, friends and residents of the same neighbourhood, consumed liquor in a bar at the VBB Junction on Ittamadu Main Road. As they stepped out, Swamy picked a quarrel with Srinivas over a trivial issue.
In a fit of rage, Swamy snatched a kerosene bottle from a nearby shop, doused Srinivas with the oil, and set him on fire. However, onlookers rushed to Srinivas’ rescue and put out the flames.

Srinivas, who suffered minor burns, is undergoing treatment at the Victoria Hospital burns ward and is said to be out of danger. Chennammanakere Achukattu police are on the lookout for Swamy.

Five burglars arrested
Jnanabharathi police recently arrested a notorious burglar and four of his accomplices and recovered 650 gm of gold worth about Rs 17 lakh.
The arrested are Raja alias Japan Raja, 35, and Jeevan, 22, both from Tamil Nadu; Basavaraju, 50, Kumar, 29, and Harish, 26, all residents of Bangalore.
Basavaraju, who was out on parole, was trying to sell the jewellery through his sons Kumar and Harish. With the arrests, police claimed to have solved eight burglary cases — four in Jnanabharathi station, two in Tavarekere, and one each in KR Puram and Peenya.

Tractor mows down youth
An 18-year-old youth, riding a two-wheelr, was killed when a speeding tractor knocked him on Kalkere Main Road, late Monday evening.
Chethan, a resident of Nagavara, was working as a painter with his uncle at a house under construction in Ramamurthynagar. The tractor coming from the opposite direction, mowed him down while he was on his way to a store to buy paint. He sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he died.

K R Puram traffic police have registered a hit-and-run case. Although the driver escaped abandoning the tractor, police said they have identified him and would arrest him soon.

Man killed in accident
A 25-year-old carpenter died after a speeding private bus rammed his moped on Varthur Main Road near Whitefield  on Tuesday.

The victim, Govinda, a resident of Chinnappanahalli, was on his way to work when the bus tried to overtake his moped causing the accident.
The impact was such that he was thrown off the moped on to the street. The bus driver fled the scene. Govinda who sustained severe injuries was rushed to a private hospital, where he died later.

The Whitefield Traffic Police have registered a case.
Four held for murder

The Shidlaghatta police (Kolar district) have arrested four persons from Bangalore wanted in cases of murder that were committed in the past few months, reports DHNS.

Raju, 33, Shafiullah, 32, of Sarjapur in Bangalore, Anand, 36 and Dinesh, 19 from Uttarahalli in Bangalore.

The police are on the hunt for the other two accused, Raju and Devaraju.
The accused are alleged to have stolen items worth Rs 26 .52 lakh and the police have recovered some of  them.

The victims include a man whose body was found at a nilgiri grove at Ambiganahalli near H Cross in the taluk on July 15. The four accused were arrested following investigations in the case.

The police tried to stop them while they were travelling in a vehicle near Hoskote.
When they escaped, the vehicle was chased and they were arrested at Kambalipura near Jangamakote, additional superintendent of police Ramesh Bhanoth said. Two other cases came to light during questioning.
