Reviving Indian dance forms

Indian Revival Group, a premier dance ensemble will be presenting ‘The Wonder That Is India’- a dance production celebrating the rich multi-cultural heritage of India on August 25 at Shri Ram Centre from 7 to 8 pm. The dance will be a fascinating pan-Indian journey to mark the 65th Independence Day.

The performance will be given by 35 dancers from varied dance forms coming together showcasing numerous dance forms. The age group of dancers will be from 18-55 years.
The Group has completed 60 years of unbroken chain of existence since its inception in 1948. Founded by Shri Yog Sunder, the Group has crossed significant milestones in its career of 6 decades. The Group has performed 5000 shows and conducted 250 tours through the length and the breadth of the country.

The Group has represented the country many times abroad as an official cultural delegation and had the honour of performing at the first command performance for the first Prime Minister and President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhawan and before many national and international leaders. It has produced many productions of high artistic merit designed by great masters.

Talking about their upcoming event, Papiha Desai, one of the choreographers, explains, “It is a matter of wonder that India has so many rich forms of dance and art. So, we are gong to present ten different dance forms on a single platform including classical, traditional, tribal, martial art, etc. We will be celebrating the glorious heritage of our country and paying tribute to India which just completed 65 years of Independence this year.”

The Group is currently led by Papiha Desai, a versatile choreographer with an impressive body of choreographic work in India and abroad. The group’s founder Shri Yog Sunder Desai has been honoured by government of India’s Sangeet Natak Akademi Award this year for his contribution to the field of Dance. The Group is dedicated to the cause of furthering the rich multi cultural heritage, mythology, philosophy and glory of India.
