She will also make a representation to the Karnataka State Minorities Commission and file a Right to Information (RTI) application for details regarding the modification in her ranking.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Sameena’s father Mohammed Iqbal, who is a Joint Director at the Department of Minorities Welfare said that he was not  satisfied with the explanation given by the University authorities.

Iqbal said that he met admissions co-ordinator Dr K Eresi, who reiterated his ignorance of the entire episode.

Meanwhile, Dr Eresi told Deccan Herald that he had asked the aggrieved party  to make a representation to the Registrar and promised them that the varsity will look into it.

“There were several errors and we corrected the ranks. We cannot simply allot a higher rank, but if there has been any injustice then it will be rectified,” Eresi said.  Sameena Taj had attended the counselling session on September 23 and had found out that her original rank had been lowered.

The University authorities had explained the lowering of the rank as error correction. Taj had also accused officials of bias and insolence during the counselling session.
