CBMs may figure in Indo-Pak meet

Last Updated 22 August 2012, 19:48 IST

In the backdrop of a fresh war of words between India and Pakistan, parliamentarians of the two countries will meet here for two days from Thursday to discuss confidence building measures (CBMs) and ways to bridge the trust deficit, impeding bilateral ties.

The 13-member Pakistani delegation will be led by Deputy Leader of Senate Sabir Ali Baloch, while the Indian delegation will be headed by BJP’s Yashwant Sinha. “Confidence building measures and the trust deficit affecting relations between India and Pakistan are likely to figure in the interchange between MPs of the two countries,” sources said.

The Indian delegation will also include Mani Shankar Aiyar (Congress) and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi (BJP).

Sources said some of the Indian MPs are keen on broaching the subject of trust deficit between the two neighbours, which is not allowing the growth in ties.
