'NGOs cannot be trusted with primary health centres'

MLA C Puttaranga Shetty instructed that responsibility of primary health centres of taluks should not be handed over to any non government organisations (NGO).


He was speaking at Karnataka Development Programmes’ review meeting of the trimester at taluk panchayat office on Thursday. During discussions of transfering charges of primary health centres of taluks to NGOs, members alleged that sanitation was neglected at health centres.


The MLA said that an NGO was granted the responsibility of Bedaguli primary health centre without his knowledge. He said that NGO was not responding to problems of public. He instructed officials to take a decision after consulting representatives and others in taluk panchayat meeting.

Replying to the issue, taluk health officer Dr Mallika said that Bedaguli health centre was handed over to an NGO following instructions of district health and family welfare officer. She said to discuss with the MLA and others prior to taking such decisions.

Goshala

Zilla panchayat social justice standing committee president B P Puttabuddi said cattle of Santhemaralli hobli region are suffering due to severe drought. He urged for goshalas at Ummattur and  Gananur to provide fodder for cattle.

Shirastedar said that district administration had instructed for goshalas at Harave and Nagavalli but establishing more goshalas would pose problem in supplying fodder. He opined that if the issue was brought to the notice of deputy commissioner, there would be possibilities of opening more goshalas.

Puttarangashetty assured to discuss the issue with deputy commissioner.
