Last Updated 23 August 2012, 19:33 IST

Insisting on marrying the man she loved cost a young girl her life as her brother allegedly killed her brutally in Muzaffarnagar district, about 450 kilometres from here.

Kala, a resident of Bihari village, not only beheaded his sister Shabnoor on Wednesday night but also threw her severed head in the house of her lover Waseem, which is a few metres away from his house.

According to police sources here, Shabnoor and Waseem were in love with each other for the past few years and wanted to get married.

But Shabnoor’s family was against this as it did not like Waseem.
On Tuesday night, Shabnoor’s family members caught the lovers together outside the village.

Though Waseem managed to escape, they caught him the next day and thrashed him.

On getting the information, police also reached the village and brought Waseem to
the police station for questioning.

Shabnoor, who was also thrashed by her family members, kept insisting on going to the police station to meet Waseem and explain to police  that she was with him on her own will and that she wanted to marry him.

Her insistence enraged Kala, who beat her up and then  chopped off her head with a sharp edged weapon.

He then threw the severed head in Waseem’s house.
The culprit and his family members are absconding and a manhunt had been launched to nab them, police said.

Similar incident

A few days ago, in similar incident, armed assailants had attacked the house of lovers who had married after a brief courtship in Baghpat district. They opened indiscriminate fire killing two members of the family and serious wounding three others.

The all powerful khaps (caste panchayats) have declared that those marrying against the wishes of the family would not be allowed to live in the village.
“Love marriages will not be accepted. Such couples will be thrown out of the villages”,a panchayat, had recently declared in Baghpat.
