Love, second marriage cost Chand Cong ticket

Last Updated 26 September 2009, 19:39 IST

A love affair and a tumultous second marriage with a former law officer, played out in full media glare, has left Chander Mohan, 44, sulking and ruing his destiny. After his desperate attempts to woo the party high command failed to get him the ticket to contest the October 13 Assembly polls, Chander Mohan is now toying with the idea of standing as an independent candidate from the Kalka constituency.

Ironically, he has won four consecutive elections from the Kalka constituency on Congress ticket rising to become a deputy chief minister in the Bhupinder Singh Hooda cabinet before he had to resign from his post.

Anuradha Bali alias Fiza Mohammed, 38, his love interest whom he married after absconding for nearly two months as deputy chief minister, and deserted her a few months later, is elated at his fate.

“Wait and see what else is in store for this man, who has spoiled my life,” Fiza says while distributing sweets to convey her happiness over denial of Congress ticket to Chander Mohan.

Fiza has come out with photographs to claim that the two had got married as per Hindu rites as well. Marrying a second time without divorcing the first wife is a crime as per Hindu Marriage Act. So far, Chander Mohan had claimed he had got married a second time by converting to Islam.

Fiza has now threatened to lodge a fresh complaint against Chander Mohan for alleged bigamy.
