A Delhi Police woman constable has alleged that she was injured after being pushed by a youth when she went to attend a road rage incident in Amar Colony in south-east Delhi on Wednesday.

Nirmala Devi, 42, said the incident happened when she was on duty with a police control room vehicle near Qutab Hotel. At 10.55 am on Wednesday, her vehicle got a call reporting an accident at East of Kailash.

“When the police vehicle rushed to the spot, she saw that a private car and a water tanker had apparently been involved in an accident. The car owner, Shudesh Goyal, was engaged in a heated argument with the tanker driver, saying her vehicle had been badly damaged,” a senior police official said.

Nirmala and her colleagues tried to pacify Goyal, but she ended up calling her son Navin to the spot. Navin came there within minutes and began abusing and assaulting the tanker driver.

Seeing the situation getting out of control, the PCR staff intervened, but they could barely hold Navin back.

“Navin entered into a scuffle with the police personnel and abused them,” the official added.

Nirmala alleged that Navin pushed her during the scuffle, due to which she fell down and suffered minor injuries. During the melee, another PCR vehicle came to the spot and its staff managed to overpower Navin.

Navin, a resident of Kailash Hill, was arrested and a case was filed against him with Amar Colony police station. He faces charges of assault, voluntarily causing hurt and obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions.

Nirmala underwent medical examination at AIIMS trauma centre.
