Old bus stand closed

The old bus stand in the city was officially closed on Saturday and boulders were placed at its entrance to prevent vehicles — especially buses — from entering the premises.

There was a demand from the public that the old bus stand site should be used exclusively for rural and city bus services since the new KSRTC bus stand was built.

So the transport department had decided to construct a bus stand and commercial complex with provision for parking facility for private vehicles. A final decision has been taken at a recently held meeting in this regard.

All rural buses were diverted to the new bus stand. Provision was made for only city buses by erecting a bus shelter outside, at the space earmarked for parking earlier.

Not knowing that the rural buses had been diverted to the new bus stand, people were found waiting for long hours and the already busy N R Circle wore a crowded look.

Divisional controller of KSRTC Santhosh said steps have been taken to ensure that people do not face any hardship.
