The moment a child takes admission in school, the teacher’s position becomes the most enviable. Every student wishes to become a teacher some day and take revenge on home work threats and weekly tests that a child is subjected to. This wish is fulfilled at least once in most ’ lives in Std. XII when the calendar shows September 5!

The date is especially exciting for girls for they know that they can get rid of their boring uniforms on this one day and dress up the way they want. In fact, here is a chance to show off their classy wardrobe to schoolmates and receive compliments.

So, the preparations begin at least a month in advance. Youngsters go for shopping and decide their attire meticulously. If it is suit, then the Anarkali kurtas and Patiala salwars are hot favourites.

Students even make sure to not to repeat the style or design less it clashes with what they had worn for Farewell in Std XI!

Tarana Chowdhary, DPS, Mathura Road says, “I wore an Anarkali with chudidar for my seniors’ farewell so I have got a Patiala paired with a short shirt tailored for the Teacher’s day this year.

“Though we have to wear Indian clothes but sarees are not allowed so we make our style statement through suits.”

What about accessories? “Bangles are too much, I think a bracelet will look good with suit. So I will buy golden bracelets, hair accessories and of course, heels. Earlier I thought I will wear juttis or but all my friends are wearing heels so I will buy golden heels too.”

The fashion statements are changing, for sure! Apparel preparations apart, the young ladies are grooming themselves up too.

“I will go to the parlour two days in advance. I have to look my best on Teacher’s Day because, the formalities of farewell for Std XII are carried out on the same day,” says Shweta Batra, a student of DAV School Janakpuri.

The girl is all elated to have bought a green net saree from Rajouri Market along with matching bangles and earrings. “I have also bought a scrap book to be filled up by my friends, teachers and classmates. We have also prepared a surprise play where we are going to mimic our teachers but all of us are scared to present it,” she
giggles.

But not all are keen on fashion, so they are preparing to celebrate the day in a simple way. Aditi Sharma, a student of Amity International, Vasundhara, says, “I have made greeting cards for all my teachers and will present my wishes on them. We also try and arrange something special for our teachers like a cake or presents to thank them for all they have done.”

But since it is not allowed officially, the girl shares, “we do all this secretively.”
Though it is mainly a girl’s domain, boys are soon catching up.

Sahil Ahuja, a student of DAV Sreshtha Vihar says, “I have bought a cream coloured linen shirt and a beige Polo trousers. I have also bought a pair of trendy shoes.”
