The Bengalee Association hosted a vibrant and rocking performance which saw children of all age-groups stealing the show. Well attended by over 2,000 people, there was only standing room. The audience was treated first to a dance performance by the children of the association and later to a musical programme. Live songs were sung by star kids from Zee Bangla and the crowd was taken down memory lane to the melodious tunes of yesteryears.

The programme began with a dance item called Rang Bahar and children, ranging from ages five to 14, were seen dressed in bright colours of yellows, reds and pinks.

They brought to mind the butterflies and flowers that bloom around the time of the year when spring is in the air and the colours of Holi are splashed around in joyous celebration.

They danced to popular Bengali tunes that were well choreographed with over 26 children.

Next up were the Zee Bangla champs, their ages ranging from 10 to 22. Shalini, Shubrojit, Shubanka and Arpita took the audience on a sentimental journey as they sang old film songs from the great singers like Manna De, Latha Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar.

Old favourites like Jhoom Jhoom Jhoom, Ketuni Nandhini and several other old Bengali film songs, that were beautifully sung by the four talented youngsters, had the audience on an emotional high.

“One of the main highlights of the puja celebrations are the cultural programmes that bring these artists down from other parts of the country and the community together in the evenings,” said Sushmita Ghosh, who looks forward to the evening
cultural shows with much enthusiasm.
