Appreciating the efforts put by Konkani and Tulu teachers, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik said that he shall propose to the government to grant special allowances to these teachers.

Speaking after inaugurating the Konkani Teachers’ day celebrations organised by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy at Canara High School at Urwa-Store, Karnik stressed that one should not lose their identity in the age of modernisation.

Many want to be a part of westernisation and are ashamed of their culture and traditions.

However, people from western countries come to India as they love Indian culture and tradition.

There is a need to instill patriotism, moral values, culture in child when they are young. Parents and teachers play an important role with regard to this, he said.

He also asked teachers to give their feedback on the Govardhan Singh report which has been published on the website by the government.

Presiding over the programme, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President Kasargod Chinna said that 60 students who opted Konkani subject in SSLC have passed in distinction.

The PUC Konkani subject syllabus is being prepared, he said and added that Academy has started many innovative programmes that aim to promote the language, he said.

A cultural programme followed the formal programme. Konakani teachers were felicitated with a memento and flower.

Mandd Shobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario, Veteran Bharathanatyam Dance Teacher Ullal Mohan Kumar, Canara High Scool Association President S S Kamath were present.
