The children of the Government Higher Primary School at Nakkalahalli have an interesting symbiotic relationship with the plants on campus.

The moment you step into the premises of the school you are welcomed by the greenery of the plants which demonstrates the environmental concern of this school. A winner of the Parisara Mitra Award, the Government Higher Primary School at Nakkalahalli is an experience at rejuvenation and excitement.

The head of the institute and the assistant teachers strive to ensure the students learn the importance of education outside the classroom. They have taught and guided the students in developing a garden on campus and helped them maintain it too.

The students in turn special interest in watering the saplings, taking great care of them on a daily basis and deweeding the garden.

Ample facilities

The School is like a mini fortress, with high compound wall. Inside, apart from the lush greenery, there is a well-equipped library, drinking water facilities for the students and clean toilets- separate for boys and girls and also special ones for the physically challenged students.

The students are taken on an educational trip every year. They visit the Adinarayana Hills, Bheemeshanabetta, Gotlagunte Ramadevarabetta and other places nearby that are open air classrooms for environmental studies.

The teachers instruct the children on the nature, geological formations including rocks, boulders and earth, and plants and herbs on the hills.

Other activities

In addition, the School has Arts Club, Science Club, Mathematics Club and Sports Club that regularly organise debates, essay writing competition, extempore, solo performances, painting and drawing competitions, etc.

“Mock Parliament and elections are organised for the students twice every year in the School to teach the students about the democratic setup.

Ours students have won in taluk and district level competitions of various kinds,” said Noorullah Saheb, the headmaster.

“The vegetables grown on campus are used in the midday meals,” he added.
