But what makes this genial Sikh stand out is his enthusiastic participation annually at the Dasara celebrations at Government Kannada School in J C Nagar Main Road.

The colourful Sardar has been a regular participant in Dasara functions in this school for the last 35 years. For him, Dasara means a unique opportunity to engage in social service. Although hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Singh fluently speaks Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Hindi and, of course, Punjabi.

“I’ve been grown up witnessing the Dasara celebrations in J C Nagar which started when I was not even born. It is said that these celebrations started here commemorating India’s victory in the 1965 war against Pakistan,” he informs.

The festival is being celebrated every year and people of all faiths participate in it. “My father too used to participate in it passionately,” says Baldev Singh gleefully.
He is involved in every aspect of organising the festivities right from arranging the essentials to roping in artistes for the programme. And his family also supports him in his endeavour.
