Warning that the people would teach a lesson, District-in-Charge Minister C T Ravi instructed the KRDCL officers to complete Mani-Sampaje road development work before May.

Addressing Puttur Taluk Panchayat review meeting at TP Hall on Wednesday, he expressed dissatisfaction over the slow progress of Mani-Sampaje road work. When the KRDCL officer assured him of completing the work before May, the Minister quipped saying KRDCL stands as an example for how the work should not be done.

“The electricity poles on the roadside have not yet been shifted. You have asked for deadlines several times earlier, but have never met them. Stand by the words this time. Let KRDCL stop cheating public at least now and work with honesty,” he said.

Taluk Panchayat member Zohara Nisar demanded to take steps to increase the pension amount of endosulfan victims.

Responding to the request, Ravi informed that the State government is already contemplating over providing compensation package based on Kerala model. Researches will be carried out in this regard, he said.

Block Education Officer Sheshashayana Karinja brought the issue of shortage of teachers in government schools to the fore. Ravi said that of the 957 alloted posts in the taluk, 141 posts are lying vacant.

The Minister assured of taking steps to solve teachers shortage problem. He also instructed the BEO not to merge the schools citing students shortage as the reason.

Concrete road project

Inaugurating various developmental work and initiating the phase II work of Puttur Mini Vidhan Soudha in Puttur on Wednesday, Minister Ravi said that concrete road project will be planned for rural areas in Malnad region which receives maximum rainfall.

The government will take steps to provide permanent shelter and title deeds for land cultivation to the poor families that reside in government land. The government had approved the Bill a long back and had sent it to the Governor for approval. But with the Governor disapproving the Bill, it has seen a set back. The amended Bill will be sent to the Governor once again, he said.

“The V phase of Suvarna Grama scheme will be implemented at a cost of Rs 3350 lakh in Aryapu, Narimogaru, Badagannur, Punacha, Alankar, Kuntjur and Golithottu areas in Puttur constituency. A sum of Rs 6.26 crore will be released to fill the potholes on the State Highway and main roads of the district.
