<p>High jumper Chethan B stole the show on the opening day of the 48th Bangalore University Inter-Collegiate Athletics Championships at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Wednesday. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The 20-year-old first B Com student from Government First Grade College (GFGC), KR Puram, set the lone record of the day, scaling a height of 2.03 metres. The previous record of 1.90M was jointly held by PV Somaiah of BMCE in 1979 and Anil TV of Al-Ameen College in 2003.<br /><br />Chethan, currently under the training of noted coach GV Gaonkar and initially coached by N R Ramesh of Youngsters Sports Club, was not satisfied with his effort. “I am still getting he used to my new technique. I am capable of much better jumps,” said Chethan who has a best of 2.12 metres.<br /><br />Tanuj Batavia of St Joseph’s College of Commerce (SJCC) won the men’s 100M dash with a personal best time of 10.9 seconds. The 19-year-old said the victory tasted sweeter as he had been plagued by injuries for the past one year. <br /><br />Rebecca Jose of Surana College emerged as the fastest woman, clocking 12.4 seconds.
