Ration card process made easy

 All those who posess temporary ration cards need not visit taluk offices to get permanent ration cards henceforth.

They can get the permanent ration cards, by visiting the respective gram panchayats, to click the photos and gettting biometric impressions and to receive permanent ration cards.

Temporary ration card holders, who have applied for permanent ration cards and have not yet submitted their photos and finger prints have been asked to submit them on or before September 30.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director Sharanabasappa said the Panchayat Development Officers have been given the power to issue the ration cards, after verying the secret code which would be sent to the temporary ration card holders after clicking the photos and getting the finger print biometric impression.

Dakshina Kannada district has around 4,000 temporary ration card holders, of which 3,500 are APL and 500 are BPL cards. The photographs have been clicked for the BPL temporary ration card holders and the card is getting printed.
Dakshina Kannada district has received 46,742 applications via online since November 18, 2011.

However, as many as 7,000 applications have been rejected. “The applications were rejected as many had applied for the ration cards more than once, some had more than one ration cards in their name,” he said.

Out of 39,742 applications, the ration cards have been distributed to 10,000 applicants. All the applications have been disposed and the applicants photographs and the finger print biometric impressions have been taken. The card will be distributed as and when it will be printed. The process is on, he said.

Out of the 39,742 applications, 13,000 applications were for BPL ration cards.
However, after the verification of the documents, only 6,900 were eligible for the BPL ration cards. The photographs and bio metric impression of these BPL ration card applicants have been taken and 3,000 BPL cards have been printed and distributed.

He said persons applying for ration cards have to furnish information about the place of residence and their family. He said submission of applications through the computer system will facilitate proper submission of data, processing and prompt delivery of ration cards.

Once the application is submitted, the applicant will get an acknowledgement via e-mail or SMS. Web cameras have been installed in all the gram panchayats and franchises in the city limits. The rate fixed for photography and finger print biometric collection in the photo centre is minimum Rs 20 upto four members and Rs 5, for each additional member.
