Four persons, including two state-level boxers and an under-16 state-level wrestler, have been arrested and a juvenile apprehended for robbing Rs 17.50 lakh from a businessman. They also took ‘objectionable’ photographs of him with a woman to blackmail him for money, police said on Sunday.

Ramesh Dahiya, Amit Diya, Pawan Singh, Lalita and a 15-year-old boy were held on Saturday over a complaint by Joginder Singh, a resident of Narela in west Delhi.

In his statement to police, Joginder said he was returning home from office in his Hyundai Verna car on September 1 when he was stopped by a person in police uniform in Deep Vihar. “The person asked Joginder to show the car’s documents. Then two more persons suddenly came and tied his hands and legs with a rope,” said Mohammad Akhtar Rizvi, additional deputy commissioner of police (outer).

Taken to gang’s safehouse

The accused then switched off his mobile phone, taped his mouth and pushed him under the seat. After half an hour, they stopped the vehicle and took him to a place where a girl and two other persons were already present. “They took off his clothes at gun-point and took objectionable photographs with the girl,” Rizvi added.

They later robbed Rs 17.50 lakh in cash that Joginder was carrying and gold jewellery he was wearing. He was subsequently dropped near Bhalswa Dairy in north-west Delhi.
On Friday, Joginder got a threat note at his house, which claimed that the accused will release the negatives and photographs taken by them if he did not pay Rs 4 lakh.

Laid a trap

Joginder and a police team went to Auchandi Border as directed in the note with phony currency of Rs 4 lakh kept in a briefcase. At 10.30 pm, a Mahindra Scorpio car approached Joginder. Its occupants took the briefcase and then fled.

A Honda City car following the Scorpio also sped away. However, both vehicles were intercepted by a police team after a chase. “Ramesh, Amit, Pawan and the juvenile were apprehended from the car,” Rizvi said. Upon interrogation, the accused named Lalita as the woman who participated in taking the photographs with Joginder. She was arrested from Patel Nagar. A case of kidnapping and robbery under Sections 365 and 397 of the Indian Penal Code has been filed with Bhalswa Dairy police station.
