A 17-year-old girl was kidnapped by a gang of four men who came in a speeding car in Venkateshwara Layout late on Monday. The victim had recently stopped going to school and was helping her father, Devraj, who runs a pawnbroker shop.

After closing the shop on Monday evening, Devraj, his daughter and his son rode on his bike homewards. As they approached Venkateshwara layout, a speeding Maruti car raced ahead and blocked their path.

Devraj and his son got off the bike. Two men got out of the car and threw chilli powder in their faces. By the time they could react the men made away with the girl.

Police sources said the girl was in love with a boy from the locality and that had prompted her family to stop sending her to school. Police suspect the love affair is related to the kidnapping. A kidnaping case was registered at Hulimavu Police Station.

Body found in garbage

In a bizarre incident, the burnt body of a man was found in a pile of garbage that was set afire in Indiranagar late on Monday. Some residents of Indiranagar, next to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Complex, called the fire brigade and complained of a fire in the garbage that was emanating much smoke.

Fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire. They were surprised to find the body of a middle aged man, completely charred. His identity is still not known.

Indiranagar police registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the case. They suspect the body might be that of a ragpicker who fell next to the garbage pile from being drunk. The pile of garbage may have been set ablaze by unknown miscreants, the police said.

However, the police are also not ruling out the possibility of a murder. In such a scenario, they suspect that this might be a clever way of disposing off the body.

Fish merchant hacked

A four-member gang allegedly hacked a fish merchant to death in D J Halli police limits on Monday night.

Police said the victim, Arifulla Khan, 26, a resident of D J Halli, was running a fish shop on Shivaraj Road.

The victim’s rivals Shafi, Museer, Imran and Nadeem Pasha came to his shop and asked him to come out on the pretext of discussing some matter.

They took him to a desolate area and attacked him with draggers and knives. A bleeding Khan was rushed a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, the police said.
Police suspect that financial disputes might have led to the murder. There are definite leads and the suspects will be arrested in a couple of days, the police added.
