Muniyappa, a 31-year-old lorry driver hailing from Kannur, died when a huge boulder fell on his lorry at Hosur Bande, a stone-quarrying site in Bagalur, on Tuesday evening.
Muniyappa was driving home to Kannur after delivering a consignment.
Downhill
The boulder came rolling down a 50-foot hillock adjacent to the road and landed on the driver’s cabin. It pierced the roof and struck Muniyappa’s head.
He lost control of the lorry and the vehicle rammed a roadside tree. By the time onlookers rushed to help him, Muniyappa was dead.
Loose stone
The Bagalur police came to the spot and retrieved the body. It is said that the boulder may have loosened due to dynamite blasts as part of the stone quarrying work.
