Four persons have been arrested for stabbing a 40-year-old man to death when he interfered in a scuffle between two groups in Ambedkar Nagar of south-east Delhi on Thursday.

Vijay, Ajay Kumar, and taxi drivers — Mahesh Kumar and Darpan — were held on Friday for the murder of Pawan, who lived in Madangir.

“Pawan was stabbed after one of his neighbours was involved in an argument with some youths known to him. He was taken to the AIIMS trauma centre, but was declared dead upon arrival,” said Ajay Chaudhry, additional commissioner of police (south-east).

Eyewitness Chet Ram told police that around 10 pm, Mahesh, Ajay and Vijay were gazing at women in front of his house. On this, his brother Naresh objected which resulted into a heated argument between them.

They got into a scuffle and started beating Naresh with a stick. Hearing his cries for help, his brother Sanjay and Pawan went there. From the other side, accused Darpan and Mohan also reached there with knifes.

“Mohan attacked Naresh and Chet Ram with a knife, while Mahesh caught hold of Pawan and Darpan stabbed him,” Chaudhry added.

The four accused have been sent to judicial custody and efforts are being made to trace Mohan.
