A 22-year-old youth was found dead in mysterious circumstances at Katwaria Sarai in south Delhi on Friday. The victim was living for last 20 days at his friends’ flat located on fifth floor of a building.

Ankit Sharma, who hails from Ballabhgarh in Haryana, was found dead near the building early Friday morning. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The police said victim was under the influence of alcohol and fell down accidentally from the fifth floor of the building, however, his family members alleged foul play and said his friends killed him for money.

The family members and relatives of Sharma on Sunday held a protest outside the Vasant Vihar police station and demanded action against his friends at whose place he was temporarily staying in Delhi.

They said Sharma, whose father died when he was only two-year-old, recently sold his paternal property at Bahadarpur village in Ballabgarh and had got Rs 20 lakh as his share.

The family believes his friends might have got to know about this development and hence they took him to Delhi along with them around 20 days ago saying they would help him get a job in the city.

They alleged his friends had recently withdrawn Rs 5 lakh from Sharma’s account to buy a car and the remaining amount is still missing.

Police said they have received a complaint filed by Sharma’s family members. “We will register a case after we get the final autopsy and forensic reports. But the matter is still under investigation,” said a senior police officer.

However, police said in the preliminary post-mortem report, traces of alcohol were found in boy’s body.

Police also learnt that Sharma had left the flat around 10.30 pm on Thursday and gone to meet his friend Sunil, who came from his native town, at Badarpur in south-east Delhi.
Both of them consumed liquor and went to a brothel house on GB Road.

At around 3.30 am on Friday, both returned Badarpur and from there Sunil left for his village and Sharma too returned to the flat.

“His two friends — Kapil and Rocky were sleeping at the flat. As Sharma arrived he went on the terrace from where he might have accidentally fallen down. We found his slippers and a bottle of beer on the terrace,” said that officer.
