Spl officer for Dasara

Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and District-In-Charge Minister Shobha Karandlaje said there is a need to develop tourist destinations such as Srirangapatna, Nanjangud, Srirangapatna, Talkad and Somanathpur by providing basic facilities. There has been discussion at the government level for the appointment of the special officer to do Dasara related works round the year instead of taking them at the last minute. There is also a thinking for having a similar authority in north Karnataka too as it is also having important tourist destinations.

Asked about her opinion about Dasara-2009, the minister said what all the shortfalls in the previous year’s Dasara festival were set right in this year’s festival and there had been lot of improvement when compared to last year festival. There were controversies regarding tender process of some works and preliminary inquiry revealed that no such thing had happened. However, the district administration would take necessary steps to prevent such things in the future. As decided last year, no new work was taken up during Dasara time this year and it would hold good for the next year too. All the works would be started well in advance and complete it before start of the ‘Naada Habba’.
