Fusion of culture on canvas enchants connoisseurs

The acrylic painting exhibition at Prasad Art Gallery in City is a fusion of cultures and reflects burning problems of life and social issues.

The five-day long exhibition of paintings started on September 22, displays nearly 60 paintings of artists from Kerala and Karnataka. The exhibition is organised by Vishwakala Art Gallery from Payyannur, Kerala. This is for the first time, they are organising a painting exhibition in Mangalore.

The paintings deal with folklore, social issues, woman, atrocities against nature, gods, temples and also portraits life from different walks. The exhibition also has on display collages created on the theme ‘Theyyam’, a folklore art of Northern Kerala.

“Three years back, we had conducted an artist camp in Payyanur and Kannur as a part of the inauguration of our art gallery. Artists from different parts of Kerala and Karnataka took part in that competition and the selected 60 creations were exhibited here,” said Vishwakala Educational and Cultural Trust Chairman V V Lakshamanan.

“As a part of the exhibition, now the Academy is planning to conduct the exhibition at Kozhikode,” he added. He opined that talented artists are plenty in this part of the world. The exhibition is organised in Mangalore with the support from senior artist P S Punchithaya.

The artists whose work are being featured in the exhibition include Chithran Kunjimangalam, M C Sreejith, Harinath Chaalad, Narayanan Kunjimangalam, Govindan Kannapuram, Chithra, Syed Asif Ali, Vasanth Rao, Prasad Rao, Kandan G, Rajendra Kedige, Anil Devadiga, Pushparaj Udupi, Nagesh and Ganesh Somayaji.
