The Social Welfare Department runs the girls’ hostel attached to the Muthyalpet College in Mulbagal.

The hostel supervisors reportedly took out 12 bags of rice meant for the students’ meals, to be sold when the inmates were away on vacation.

Caught red-handed
Leaders of the Dalit organisations, who heard of this, caught supervisor Ramachandrappa and one Prabhu, who had arrived to collect the sacks of rice, red-handed.
The matter was immediately communicated to Tahsildar Jayamadhava, who immediately locked the hostel. As the students of the college are expected to return to the hostel on Wednesday, the hostel was reopened on Tuesday night, and the key handed over to the watchman.

The leaders of the Dalit organisations have demanded that immediate action be initiated against the warden.
