JOIN USTen burglars were arrested in Capital for involvement in thefts in shops and showrooms by lifting shutters with the help of iron rods, police said.
Rameshwar Mehto, Mohammad Israfil, Bignesh Jaswal, Pramod Shah, Vijay Kumar, Jafar Ansari, Sriram Shah, Mumtaj Alam, Amal Mathur and Ranjit Kumar were arrested at Greater Kailash area in south east Delhi, said a senior police officer.
Phones stolen
They were held while police were probing a burglary that took place in Samsung Showroom Plaza in Yusuf Sarai market on September 9.
Sanjay Bakshi, owner of the showroom, told police that at 6 am, the security guard of the market informed him that the shutter of his showroom was lifted about a foot from the floor. He said his mobile phones were stolen. During investigation, police found a cellphone from the spot.
It belonged neither to the owner nor to the employees of the showroom, police added. It had a number of Bihar Circle and the number was working when the crime took place.
Police found that the mobile belonged to a member of a gang which had committed the burglary in the showroom.
“They were nabbed after a tip-off that accused persons were staying at Jamrudpur village in Greater Kailash,” said the officer.
During interrogation, the accused told police that the group consists of 10 to 12 people and the masterminds of this gang are Uppender Tadi, Santosh Kumar and Mohammad Israfil.
The three had roped in other people from their native place at Ghodasahan village in Motihari, Bihar for the robbery bid.
Lured youth
The trio used to lure youths to come to Delhi and other metros. They would then take cheap accommodation near the targeted area.
The gang used to part into three or four small groups and conducts recce in different areas. They chose early hours to commit burglary, said the officer.
