Be it at talent hunt competitions, contests or clubs.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Yet for most students, it is the college fests that prove to be a perfect launch pad to explore their talents. That’s exactly what the students were looking for when they participated in the sociology fest, ‘Socinus 2012’, at St Joseph’s College of Arts and Science.<br /><br />Organised by ‘Socio Zest’, the forum of the sociology department, the fest has always aimed at finding new talents and giving opportunities to everyone to portray their creative skills. This annual inter-collegiate fest had over ten colleges including Jyoti Nivas College, CMR Institute of Management Studies, St Philomena’s College of Nursing, Mount Carmel College and St Joseph’s Evening College, take part in a variety of events. <br /><br />Events like poetry, dumb charades, JAM, debate, collage, art and face painting were conducted. Each of the events had a theme which ranged from cultural to social subjects.<br /><br /> If it was ‘racism’ for face painting, it was ‘cultural collaboration’ for art competition. Topics like ‘A journey into outer space’ in the creative writing competition kept the participants coming out with some interesting angles. There was a huge turnout for face painting and students were very sportive to both paint and model for the artists.<br /><br />Many felt that this year’s fest was far more successful than last year’s. Ashith Dev from Socio Zest, says, “It was really a wonderful experience. ‘Socinus’ was undeniably a grand success. It was great to see the zeal and enthusiasm of so many participants, who were trying their best to come out with flying colours. The team’s efforts and hard work did indeed pay off.”<br /><br />Christina Martin, another student, says that the huge turnout was very gratifying. “It’s really nice that the college provides good opportunities such as this to showcase our talents,” adds Christina. <br /><br />While everyone gave in their best, it was the Mount Carmel College that bagged the overall trophy.</p>
