JOIN US'Kannada language is essential to build future'
Other languages may be important to gain knowledge, but Kannada language is essential to build our future, opined Kannada Development Authority Chairman ‘Mukyamanthri’ Chandru.
Speaking at an awareness programme on Kannada organised by the Kannada Development Authority, Kannada Sahitya Parishat Moornadu, Moornadu Maruthi Mahila Sangha, Maragodu Bharathi PU College here on Friday, he said the people of the State should give priority to Kannada language along with learning other languages.
“Kannada is implemented fully in 11 districts in the State. Two to three languages are spoken in 19 districts. Along with preserving regional languages, Kannada language should be conserved,” he said.
The medium of instruction should be Kannada till fifth standard. Kannada should be used for administrative purposes, he said.
The KDA has been supporting the students who have completed SSLC in Kannada medium by announcing awards for highest scorers.
He said the KDA is planning to organise Bhasha bavaikyatha convention in Kodagu.
Writer K T Chikkanna said the students should make a indepth study on Kannada language, literature and culture.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports M P Appachu Ranjan said reservation should be introduced in private sectors for those who have completed their studies in Kannada medium. He said “priority should be given for conserving Kannada language. Culture can be preserved only when language is conserved. There is a need to give priority to mother tongue.”
