The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Saturday has cleared 80 tonnes of garbage from the Krishnarajendra Market during its intensive cleanliness drive.

The Palike carried out the drive with the help of 118 pourakarmikas, which was long overdue. Several memoranda and personal representations by local traders to BBMP authorities could not yield the desired result all these days. The garbage crisis in the City compelled Palike officials clean up the market which was in an utter mess. Traders assisted the pourakarmikas during the drive. After the garbage was removed, the traders took a vow that henceforth they would segregate waste and would keep the market premises clean.
The garbage cleared from the market would be used to generate bio-methane gas and green manure.
